Hotmail addresses are pretty popular, but who wants to always log in to the hotmail website to check their mail? Guess what? If you’ve got a Mac, worry no more! Apple Mail will do the trick, and make your email experience better, as well!!
And here is how you do it!
Step 1: Open Mail. If this is your first time, it will open a window asking for your account information. Move to step 2. If you already have existing accounts in Mail, then go to your preferences, and click the Accounts Tab. Hit the + button at the bottom.
Step 2: Enter the name you want displayed when someone receives an email from you. Also enter your hotmail email address and the password you use to login to it. Click Next.
Step 3: Select your account type. For all hotmail accounts, this will be POP, which should be set by default. Type in a description of this account, which will be used to name your mailbox that’s shown in the actual Mail sidebar. For the Incoming Mail Server, type: “pop3.live.com”. Without the quotes, of course! Then enter the same info you did on the previous window, your email address in the User Name box, and your password.
Step 4: The next window will ask you if you’d like to use SSL or not. Do not check that box. Select “Password” for the Authentication option. Click Next.
Step 5: This step is to set the Outgoing Mail Server. Type a description of this, which will be used to identify the server setting itself. In the next box, type in “smtp.live.com”, and make sure that the checkbox to use this server only is checked. Then check the box to Use Authentication, and fill in (Yep, again!!) your email and password. Click Continue.
Step 6: This is an Account Summary window. Verify that all the info is correct, if not, just use the Go Back button to revise your info! Check the box to “Take Account Online”, and click Create!
Mail will then connect to the server, retrieve the messages, and you now have a replica of your hotmail account right there on your computer!
